When I was constructing the form for this movement, I had to literally chart out the sections so I could keep track of them. I suppose a novelist (especially a Russian novelist) may find it helpful to map out the chapters, who appears where and when, how the drama should flow, and so on. I even gave names to the various motives and themes. (In this case, "motive" or "motif" is not referring to the cause of the crime in that Russian novel, but is a musical term meaning "A short rhythmic or melodic passage that is repeated or evoked in various parts of a composition.") Here are the various motifs; click on them to see and hear them.
DOOM - G Minor
ANGER I - A Minor (The main three-note theme of the entire first movement.)
ANGER II - C Minor (A variation.)
ANGER III (Another variation. Amazing, isn't it, how many ways anger can manefest?)
Bridge to Ab Major (Yet another variation.)
Subordinate Theme Intro - in Ab Major, then Eb Major (This theme is a variation of the main three-note theme.)
Subordinate Theme, Main - in F Major
Sad I - G Major
Sad II - Db Major
